Snow Day in Park City

That's me......angrily pumping my fist in the air. It usually takes something significant to make me this angry i.e., not enough sleep, hunger, or in this case not being able to snowboard. During the week between X-mas and New Year's Day my fantastic wife, Amber, was kind enough to bring all my snowboard gear up to Park City and meet me for a half day of snowboarding. We drove up to Park City Mountain Resort and found ourselves caught in a nasty traffic jam in the parking lot for nearly an hour. For obvious reasons everybody in the lot was furious. I even saw a sixty year old man fight a sixteen year old boy and girl. It was awesome. Sadly, we gave up and went home, hence the angry fist in my car. We did however get up and go back up to PCMR the next day to snowboard a full day. The day began the same way the previous day ended, chaotic. About an hour wait at the first lift and a forty-five minute wait on the next one, made us realize that we will be sure to stay faithful to our home resort Solitude. The day did get better, we were fortunate enough to meet up with our friends Cami and Scott who know PCMR very well. So they were able to show us around. Lunch was great and it snowed all day giving us plenty of powder to play in. Amber and I wanted to wish everybody health in '08 and that it turns out to be the best year ever. Hopefully all resolutions are maintained and all big goals are fulfilled. We love you all and thanks for making all the previous years great!

Resoultions: fact or fiction

Christmas has past and we are faced with a bright and shiny, fresh, new year. We are also faced with the decision to make, or not to make, New Year's Resolutions (NYR).

Traditionally I have not liked NYR because they tend to be forced and unimportant and easily broken. Example: work out more - ends in about 2 weeks, lose weight - blah blah, save money - easily said hard to do after Christmas and while using student loans. After failing over and over to keep the NYR I stopped doing them. And honestly did not miss it.

Then I started doing Next Year's Major To Do List (NYMTDL) which is better because most of them get done without extra effort. Example: graduate (would have done this anyway), take boards (have to do), read 3 books for fun (gives me good excuse not to read medical journals). I like to do lists. I feel a sense of accomplishment crossing off items, even if it is "shower". Some people are not organized enough to shower, I am, I am very accomplished. That sort-of-thing.
But more than that, my NYMTDL helps me see the big picture. Where have I come from (by looking at last year's list), where am I going and how should I get there (this year's list). I sit back and reflect on things that are important - relationships (am I doing a good job maintaining these, how can I improve them), my personal happiness (fun stuff), how is my health (exercise, BP, stress). This reflection time, taking inventory, is the most useful, I think. It helps me gain perspective. A guide for continuing or changing life's path.

I also like to look at the list throughout the year, and change it if needed. It helps to keep me on track, keep me motivated, and remember that all things pass, especially unpleasant ones, like taking boards.

What do you do? Do you do make NYR or NYMTDL? Or do you reflect in different ways?

Just curious.

Football Banquet

Brandon had his football banquet last night. Thanks to Mike, Torri, Chris, and Amber for attending this 3-3.5 hr night of fun in the snow. It is always sad to see another graduating class of football players leave. PKC FB team had a great season with many team and individual awards. The players continued the tradition of leadership, dedication, and love for each other. Brandon worked hard to think of individualized tributes for all senior players. Chris, Amber, and myself worked hard to make gag gifts for the coaches. Thanks to all family and friends that came out to games to support Brandon and the Park City Football team during the 2007 year.

thanks for all your help!

Andy and Oakley were such sports in helping Chris and I get the perfect shot for our holiday/thank you cards! Thanks again Andy for helping us get the job done! (The best part about the day was our make-shift leash for Oakley, thanks to the good ole' subaru emergency kit!)
